The photo above is of the 1794 deed when the family (Christian) purchased property in western Lincoln County, NC. They were moving from Salisbury , NC in Rowan County where they were counted in the 1790 census. Below is the “readable” one as best as I can translate. The property was on the old Boyle property just west of Indian Creek on NC Highway 27 heading westward from the town of Lincolnton, NC. I was told in 1983 that the original homestead was still standing but I never went looking.

LAND TRANSFER DOCUMENT-1794
This indenture made the twenty-fourth day of October in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety-four between Michael Buff of the county of Lincoln in the state of North Carolina of the one part and Christian Knipe of the county of aforesaid and state of No Carolina of the other part witnesseth that the said Michael Buff for and in consideration of the sum of eighty pounds good and lawful money of the state aforesaid, to him in hand paid by the said Christian Knipe the receipt whereof the said Michael Buff doth hereby acknowledge hath given granted bar gained & sold aliened & confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell alien & confirm unto the said Christian Knipe his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land situate lying & being in the county of Lincoln and state aforesaid lying in both sides Indian Creek bounded as follows viz beginning at a post oak on Nerns line & runs thence with Shaw’s line No. 65 Et. 1400 poles to a post oak Shaws corner then So. 25 Et. 115 poles to a black oak sapling on the old line then So. 65 Wt. 228 poles to a post oak then No., 25 Wt.98 poles to a stake then East 82 poles to a black oak Nerns beginning corner then North 82 poles to the beginning containing by estimation one hundred & seventy-six acres be the same more or less formerly granted to Daniel Hutsen by patent bearing the date the 22nd day of Dec. 1768 as by a reference thereunto had may more fully and at large appear and also all the woods ways waters and watercourses and all & every the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversion & reversions remainder & remainders rents issues & profits of the aforesaid lands & premises and every part thereof and all the estate right title interest claim property & demand whatsoever of the said Christian Knipe of in and to the lands & premises hereby granted. To have and to hold the aforesaid land & premises with the appurtenances unto the said Christian Knipe & his heirs & assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said Christian Knipe his heirs and assigns forever and the said Michael Buff for himself and his heirs the aforesaid land & premises and every part thereof against him and his heirs and against the claim and claims of all and every other person & persons whatsoever to the said Christian Knipe and his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents in witness whereof the said Michael Buff hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his seal the day & year first above written
